STUDY FINDS LAURENTIAN VALLEY NEEDS RECREATION DIRECTOR

The recreation needs study for the Township of Laurentian Valley is now complete. A summer student conducted the study by interviewing 14 volunteers, three recreation committee presidents - and by creating a survey which had 44 responses.

Nick Edge from Arnprior District High School is the newest student trustee for the Renfrew County District School Board. This is the first year the board has had two students on the board, each for a two year term so they overlap.

The legacy of Terry Fox continues on September 18th. Several communities in Renfrew County will be hosting the annual run to once again raise money for cancer research. In Pembroke, the run will take place at Riverside Park.

460 CATS FOUND FOREVER HOMES DURING SPCA'S ADOPTION BLITZ

The recent Ontario SPCA adoption blitz was a big success. From August 11 to 28, all adult cats were offered at a reduced adoprion rate at participating animal shelters, which included the Renfrew County branch.

SUMMER SCHOOL A CHANCE FOR GIRLS TO LEARN ABOUT TRADES

Women in the trades was a focus of this year?s summer programs for the Renfrew County District School Board. The two-week program allowed the Grade 7 and 8 girls to try different trades to find out what interests them.

ENBRIDGE DONATES DETECTORS TO HORTON FIRE DEPT

Horton Township is among several local municipalities who have recieved free smoke and CO detectors from Enbridge. The township got 104 units and Deputy Chief Allan Cole says it all helps.

Killaloe OPP are on the hunt for mailbox destroyers. Officers are reporting that they have been called to a number of homes where someone has damaged their roadside mailbox.

TRANSPORT HITS MOOSE ON HIGHWAY 60

A truck driver wasn't hurt but his transport is a little banged up after hitting a moose on Highway 60. Killaloe OPP say the collision occured at 3:13am last Wednesday in South Algonquin Township. The damaged transport was towed from the scene.
