4/18/2017 7:53:52 AM

Whitewater Region Township will add new equipment and new voting methods to help streamline the process for the 2018 municipal election. Staff recommends the township move to a seven-day voting period for telephone and Internet voting while creating mobile paper voting booths that can operate for one day during the voting period in each of the township's four hubs. Staff is also suggesting the purchase of voting services to make for a more efficient operation during the most important part of municipal democracy. Mayor Hal Johnson says he expects this bylaw will fix past issues.

Staff estimates the budget for the 2018 election will be around $44 000, with the largest costs being the Telephone and Internet Voting Services and Voting Letter Production coming in at $17 000 and Paper Ballots, Accessible In-person voting and Tabulators costing around $15 000. Those services will be provided by Dominion Voting Systems Corporation. The by-law will come for final consideration on April 19.
