The month of September has been declared Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in the city of Pembroke. Mayor Mike Lemay made the declaration, saying that prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Canada. Stats also show that one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and an estimated 23,000 men will be diagnosed this year. However, the survivor rate is above 90 per cent if detected early. Prostate Cancer Canada also recommends that men get a PSA test in their 40's.
