Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for the Upper Ottawa Valley. The agency says conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds today. Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and early evening. Some of the thunderstorms will bring dime sized hail, wind gusts to 70 km/hr and frequent lightning. Funnel clouds may also make a brief appearance in this unseasonably cool and unstable air mass. The thunderstorms are expected to dissipate this evening. These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms and are normally not a danger near the ground. However, officials say there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado. You're advised to treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously and prepare to take shelter.
