On the fourth days into court proceedings in Basil Borutski's triple murder trial we hear the accused speak; no, he hasn't decided to participate, but the court was shown a portion of a five hour video of Borutski's interrogation a day after the killings. The video shows Borutski speaking to Detective Sargeant Kaley O'Neil of the OPP's Behavioural Sciences Division. In the video, Borutski tells the detective he was arrested for killing, not murder and proceeded to quote frequently from the bible. Borutski appears to believe all of his victims had conspired against him to get their hands on his money and sully his reputation. He also rails against what he terms the unfair treatment he's received from police and the justice system. Court was adjourned early Thursday as one of the jurors had a presecheduled appointment.
Borutski is facing three counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Anastasia Kuzyk, Carol Culleton and Nathalie Warmerdam at their Ottawa Valley homes in September of 2015.
