TOWNSHIP CLAIMS ALGONQUIN TRAIL IS UNLAWFUL
1/10/2018 10:37:21 AM

The United Townships of Head, Clara and Maria say the Algonquin Trail is unlawful. In a letter sent to the councils of Renfrew County, Lanark County, Municipality of Papineau Camera, Town of Mattawa and all lower tiers on December 20th, HCM says that the trail is unlawful under that municipality's zoning by-law. Renfrew County Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk, Jim Hutton, responded to that letter and disagrees with their position.

Chair of the Development and Property Services Committee and the Algonquin Trail Advisory Committee, Bob Sweet, says that the Township's claim that county council makes decisions without consulting lower tiers governments just isn't accurate.

Hutton and Sweet say that they will continue to work with Head, Clara and Maria and that meetings are scheduled for the coming weeks to discuss the Algonquin Trail.
