TAXI FARES TO RISE IN CITY OF PEMBROKE
2/7/2018 2:00:07 PM

For the first time in nine years, taxi fares are going up in Pembroke. The planning and development committee for the municipality was given a request from the city's four taxi cab companies asking for an increase in taxi rates. After a brief discussion, the committee granted the fare increases. The starting rate to take a licensed taxi is changing from $4 to $4.60 and every kilometer after that will be changing to $2.90 from $2.30. All taxi companies had the same reason for the request, stating increases in gas prices, inflation, insurance, auto parts and maintenance as well as the minimum wage increase as reasons why they needed the rates to change.
