GROUP WOULD LIKE TO RUN RAILWAY STATION

The hum of activity may be returning to the Barry's Bay Railway Station in the near future. Combermere resident Doug DeLaMatter says his group has met with Madawaska Valley Township Council, and negotiations on a memorandum of understanding are now in progress.

The attraction would include a small museum, art gallery and Visitor Information Centre. DeLaMatter says under the old arrangement, when the building was run by the Township, and erratic staffing forced the facility's closure. The Madawaska Valley Culture and Heritage Society spokesperson says his group is in the process of incorporating, which will allow it the ability to apply for grants the Township cannot. The two sides will revisit the matter at a meeting Tuesday (February 13th) to see whether sufficient progress has been made to move forward.
