RESIDENT ASSAULTED AFTER CONFRONTING SUSPECTED THIEVES

A Petawawa homeowner was assaulted after confronting two suspicious men he saw entering unlocked vehicles in his neighbourhood. Upper Ottawa Valley OPP say it happened in the early morning hours of Monday (Feb 5) and both suspects fled on foot after the assault. There were numerous thefts from vehicles that night in the area of Russell Street, Selkirk Street, Briarwood Drive, Edith Street, Spruce and Herman Streets, Woodland Crescent, and Murphy Road. Police have recovered a significant quantity of items including electronics, personal accessories and military equipment all believed stolen from unlocked vehicles. Anyone who has not yet contacted the police to report a theft from their vehicle is asked to call the Petawawa detachment of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP. Police say they have identified suspects and the investigation continues.
