DEEP RIVER COUNCIL SENDS BUDGET BACK FOR ANOTHER LOOK
2/13/2018 8:07:49 AM

Deep River council has differing opinions on their budget. A recommendation appeared during the most recent meeting to approve the budget which was turned down by everyone except Mayor Joan Lougheed. The proposal to send the budget back to the finance and administration committee was brought forward by councillor Ron Desrocher, who said he wanted the treasurer - who had just returned from paternity leave two days before the meeting - to look it over before it was approved. It turned into a lengthy discussion about whether the town should continue to build reserves for large infrastructure projects they know are coming down the line or whether to increase taxes the year of big projects to cover the cost. In the end, it was decided the budget will be looked over again by the F&A committee and by treasurer Nadeem Dean before it will appear on a future agenda to be approved.
