3/9/2018 1:36:14 PM

OPP will be on the lookout for distracted drivers during the busy March Break travel week. Police say they will be extremely focused on finding and fining people texting or talking on their cell phones or are distracted in some way. This, after new statistics showing that inattentive drivers continue to be the leading cause of death on Ontario roadways. The numbers from 2017, show inattentive drivers caused 83 deaths which passes speed-related deaths at 75, lack of a seatblet at 49 and impaired driving which caused 46 deaths.   This is the fifth straight year that distracted driving has been the leading cause of death on OPP patrolled roadways. If you're convicted of distracted driving, you could face fines of up to $1,000, receive three demerit points and there's a chance you could be charged with careless driving or dangerous driving.
