LOCAL STUDENTS CHOOSE YAKABUSKI IN STUDENT VOTE 2018

If Renfrew County's young people had a chance to vote, the results of last night's provincial election wouldn't look much different. The results of Student Vote 2018 have been released and John Yakabuski still sailed away with the majority of ballots cast. The PC incumbent secured 51 percent of the ballots cast in the mock elections held recently at 35 public, french and catholic schools in the county. Like the real results, the NDP candidate came in second with about 17 percent support, followed by the Liberal at 12 percent and Green party candidate with 11 percent. The final two candidates squeaked out about three percent support each. However, provincially, the results told a different story. The mock election results from schools all over Ontario show students would have chosen the NDP to lead the next government with a majority and the PCs in opposition. In the student vote program, students learn about government and the electoral process, and research the issues, parties and candidates through classroom activities before casting a ballot for their local candidates.
