AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES TO BE TESTED ON RENFREW COUNTY ROADS
7/6/2018 3:30:38 PM

Renfrew County is to going to take part in the Province's plan to test autonomous vehicles (AVs)- those cars that get around on their own without drivers. At County's final meeting before the July break, councillors voted to accept an invitation from the Ontario Good Roads Association to participate in Ontario's Preferred Autonomous Vehicle Test Corridor.
Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon is a strong backer of the initiative.

Operations Committee Chair Tom Peckett says AVs calculate their route in communication with cellular transmission towers.   Emon says taking part in the AV tryouts will bolster arguments for better cell reception in the County. There will be no cost, other than staff time, for the County to participate in the Autonomous Vehicle Study.
