10 years ago, Emma Leavey fulfilled her dream of becoming a business owner.
After working at Pick-it-Fence through high school and taking a business course at Algonquin College in Pembroke, Leavey had the opportunity to purchase the store.
Since that time, she has moved the store from the Pembroke Mall to downtown Pembroke – not once, but twice, and now operates one of the most successful retail stores in the city.
Emma also created Ottawa Valley Apparel, a clothing line that highlights where we live, work and play.
You may have noticed the shirts with the slogan “Valley Proud” on the front – those are Emma’s creation.
Being such a young entrepreneur already, Leavey’s advice for other young women looking to become their own boss is to not let anything hold you back because life is too short and to not do what you love.
