She says the NSDF will provide a spot for safe and permanent disposal of low level radioactive waste. The facility will mostly store contaminated soil, building demolition material, lab equipment such as, gloves, coats and mop heads. The NSDF will look like a municipal landfill, be approximately 18-meters tall and cover roughly 16 hectares (39.5 acres), but not be visible from the main campus at the Chalk River Labs or from the Ottawa River.
