If you’re camping this weekend, be aware there are three fires currently burning in Algonquin Provincial Park. The latest flare up is near Round Island Lake and is currently at .1 of a hectare. Two other blazes of similar sizes are chewing through the trees near North Tea Lake and Burnt Island Lake. These fires are further into the park, but with the dry weather we’ve had this season, and little rain, it’s wise to be cautious. Campers should ensure there are no burn bans in place and if you are permitted to have a campfire, choose the site carefully, keep it small and attended to. Drown the flames with water and ensure it’s extinguished prior to leaving the site. It’s suggested you give the ashes a stir with a stick in case hot coals remain hidden and then douse it again.
