Work on Centennial Park in Petawawa is expected to start soon. Director of Community Services, Kelly Williams, says now that the water is low enough, they are able to examine the full extent of damage done to the catwalk retaining wall and other areas surrounding the park.
Most of Centennial Park has been closed off since the spring flooding destroyed walkways, benches, gardens and put debris in the sand at the beach. A portion of the catwalk has also been completely knocked over. Williams says a tender for landscaping work closes today, and after staff will have a better idea of the total costs.
Williams says the town has applied for Disaster Recovery Assistance and is also going through their insurance company to help pay for the damages. He adds council has the final say in whether the project gets approved, but it’s expected that work will begin shortly and wrap up before the winter months.
