It’s a way to protect yourself from thieves. The Pembroke Police Service Board has teamed up with the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP and local library as they launch a new property identification program. OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Stephan Neufeld, says residents can sign out one of six electronic engravers from the Pembroke Library at no cost for up to three weeks. Neufeld says last year, local police were able to recover stolen property and return it to the owner because it had an identifiable mark on it.
Window and door stickers are also available to let others know you’ve taken proactive measures to protect your property. Neufeld says this is an excellent example of community based policing.
The OPP inspector says the property identification program allows members of the community to protect themselves.
