Major construction is planned along Petawawa Boulevard over the next three years, but it’s not the work the Mayor was hoping for. At the council in committee meeting on Monday night (Jan. 27th) Mayor Bob Sweet provided an update on several road projects. He says they’re doing stabilization work along the bridge right now with about half a million dollars of rock in the embankment. Sweet adds work on the existing boulevard will start next year and in 2023 they have planned renovations along the bridge.
Sweet adds they are still pushing to have four lanes along Petawawa Boulevard and a new bridge installed to alleviate traffic.
Sweet says the county has ordered a system to help better coordinate the traffic lights and are still looking at funding for a round-a-bout at the entrance of the Garrison in an effort to improve traffic flow along Petawawa Boulevard.
The Mayor says both eastbound and westbound lanes along Petawawa Boulevard will be repaved with sewer and water work done as well. He adds they will be doing about $2-million in cosmetic repairs along the bridge including upgrading the rails, sidewalks and decking. Lane reductions can be expected as a part of the planned construction.
