Local members of ETFO walk picket line

Local members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario are off the job today, in another in a series of rotating strikes.  No new talks are scheduled between the province and the union after discussions in front a mediator broke down on Friday.

The one day strike today affected both elementary and secondary schools with the Renfrew County District School Board, and Thursday, ETFO membership will be out all across Ontario.  Local ETFO President, Allison Ryan claims the province isn’t willing to play ball.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Stephen Lecce says that the union will not budge on its demand for compensation paralleling cost-of-living increases.

He maintains the Government stands ready to meet at any time to reach a deal that keeps students in class.

Today, Catholic schools are impacted by a walkout of education staff.
