The Whitewater Kings are planning to move to Petawawa. However, there is a correction to our earlier report on this, in that it’s important to note that this move has not yet been approved by the CCHL2. Team owner Alex Armstrong made a presentation to Petawawa council last night (Feb. 24th). Armstrong says in addition to relocating the team, they would like to change the team name and logo to the “Petawawa Pats”. Armstrong says he’s excited to relocate the team and hopes to sign a one year deal for the team to play at the Civic Centre on Saturday nights.
Audio PlayerThe Whitewater Kings currently have three players from Petawawa, seven players from Pembroke, four players from Whitewater Region and the rest from other parts of Renfrew County, Ontario and even the United States. The Junior B team currently plays one home game a week at the Cobden Arena every Saturday night and one away game per week. Director of Community Services for the Town of Petawawa, Kelly Williams, says they have an ice allocation policy for new users at the Civic Centre arena. Williams doesn’t expect any issues with scheduling around other teams and users.
Audio PlayerWilliams says back in December they hosted a game at the Civic Centre between the Whitewater Kings and Arnprior Packers that was really well attended. Council was supportive of the idea to bring a Junior B hockey team to Petawawa with no negative comments received.
