The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) says there are no local cases of the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19. On Tuesday afternoon (March 3rd) the health unit issued a statement saying they are NOT investigating any cases at this time, but are monitoring the situation daily. Communications and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the RCDHU, Melissa Botz, says the health and well-being of all residents in Renfrew County and District is their top priority. She says they continue to work with our provincial and federal partners in response to this new virus. The local health unit is reminding residents the risk remains low for COVID-19 in Canada and Ontario. To reduce the risk of respiratory illness you’re reminded to frequently wash your hands, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, if you’re sick stay home and get the flu shot. Last week the County of Renfrew provided an emergency management update on the outbreak. If you think you may have contracted COVID-19 you are asked to NOT go to the hospital where there’s a greater risk at infecting others and instead call public health where you will be given further direction and likely be tested at home.
