All new admissions to Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew and Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke will temporarily be closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This includes transfers from hospitals and new community admissions. The decision was made as a part of the virtual County of Renfrew council meeting this morning (April 29th). The Director of long-term care for the County of Renfrew, Shelley Sheedy, says they average about five transfers to each home on a monthly basis.
The resolution was supported by county councillors who echoed the fact that they are not turning their backs on seniors and will offer more robust support through the RCVTAC program and additional community care. The County of Renfrew has no active outbreaks reported at any long-term care homes.
As of April 24th, 21 residents and 17 staff at Bonnechere Manor and another 16 residents and 14 staff at Miramichi Lodge had been tested for COVID-19. Sheedy says as of this morning, they have three residents still waiting for test results at the Manor and one resident waiting for test results at the Lodge.
Sheedy says the two long-term care homes operated by the County of Renfrew are seeing a 48-hour turn around from the time residents are tested until they are getting results back.
