Emergency services were called in for help on the Ottawa River over the long weekend. The Renfrew OPP says on Monday (May 18th), two boaters, Dustin Howard and Mike Gavin, were on the Ottawa River west of Acres Road where they observed a boat headed for the rapids.
The OPP, marine officers, Whitewater Fire Department, County of Renfrew Paramedics and several volunteers assisted with the search and eventually the boat was found fully submerged in the rapids.
A short time later a couple was located on the shoreline after starting a fire. The couple was taken home by parameds with no injuries.
