Residents in the Upper Ottawa Valley could see the first legal pot shop just outside of Pembroke. A retail cannabis store application has been submitted for 1035 Pembroke Street East in Laurentian Valley Township. Laurentian Valley councillors were made aware of the application on Tuesday night (May 19th).
The proposed cannabis store is listed under the name OVCS and the application was submitted by Ryan William Labelle.
A deadline for objections and submissions to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is coming up on Friday (May 22nd). Town Planner and Economic Development Officer, Lauree Armstrong, says the only comments that can be made are regarding public health and safety concerns, protecting youth and restricting access to cannabis and preventing illicit activities in relation to cannabis. Armstrong says the location of the proposed store is in a predominantly commercial area with no nearby schools.
No concerns were raised by council during the virtual meeting.
