With large item collection week taking place in Pembroke, Petawawa and Laurentian Valley, local residents are being asked to NOT pick up items off the side of the road.
During his update to council this afternoon (May 25th), Petawawa councillor Tom Mohns, said the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre is still meeting with municipalities virtually over zoom. Mohns says the streets are a bit of a mess right now with everyone putting out bulky items. He adds many people are picking through items on the side of the road and he’s reminding residents to be mindful of public health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mohns says crews will be out this week picking up all acceptable items placed at the side of the road.
The Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre says scavenging of materials set out for large item collection is not permitted under municipal by-laws and the current provincial emergency measures in place.
Last week the Renfrew County and District Health Unit also put out a notice discouraging garage sales because it’s difficult to practice physical distancing and proper hand hygiene.
