Work is still being planned along Petawawa Boulevard.
Mayor Bob Sweet says upgrades to traffic light timing should be complete within the month. Sweet says the county is still considering roundabouts at the entrance to the Garrison, where Petawawa Boulevard intersects with Victoria Street and at the Doran Street intersection.
Sweet says around $1.4-million has been budgeted this year and next year for road resurfacing, curb repairs and to rehabilitate the Petawawa River bridge.
The mayor says the price tag to 4-lane Petawawa Boulevard including the addition of a second bridge to the Garrison would cost around $24-million. Sweet says they will continue to look for funding opportunities to do the full job. The Petawawa Mayor says he’s been trying to get funding for this project since 2007 and has worked with seven base commanders and five wardens over that time to try and make it a reality.
Sweet talked about designing the roundabouts to leave room for a possible four-lane expansion in the future. He says the county is moving forward with designs for the proposed roundabouts and he hopes to have an idea of the costs sometime in August.
