Lake Dore has tested positive for Blue-Green Algae.
A sample of lake water taken July 2nd confirmed its presence, according to both the Renfrew County and District Health Unit and the MOECP.
Results came back Monday night.
While both the Ministry and the Health Unit say there are no known locations for an algae bloom, it’s time to remind you of the precautions you should take to protect your family, pets and any livestock you own that may come near Lake Dore.
Algae produce toxins as they decay.
Direct contact with a toxin while in the lake can cause a skin rash, or if consumed will give you severe cramps and may lead to vomiting or diarrhea.
The RCDHU says if you use the lake for recreation or drinking purposes you should beware of the risks.
Avoid using any water in the vicinity of a blue-green algae bloom; don’t even swim near it.
Do not eat the inner organs of any fish you catch.
Do not boil the water from near a bloom- that only releases more toxins; ditto for trying to cook with the water.
Your filtration system is no protection.
The RCDHU says If you find a blue-green algae bloom, report it to the MECP at 1-800-268-6060.
Both the Health Unit’s and Ministry’s websites have more information.
With the arrival of warmer weather, #RCDHU is advising residents who live around or use lakes and rivers to take…
