Hand sanitizer- it’s a fact of life in our post-COVID environment; a requirement of use when you enter a retail centre, including your local grocery.
But not all hand sanitizers are created equal, and Health Canada has implemented a recall of certain brands because they contain (or may contain) industrial grade ethanol, which poses a potential health risk.
The federal agency says you should immediately stop using a hand sanitizer product if it is on the list, and check with your municipality on how to dispose of it.
Health Canada recommends you only use ANY hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
There are currently 24 varieties of hand sanitizer on the banned list, which is updated weekly.
