OPP divers have recovered the body of an Ottawa resident from Dalhousie Lake in Lanark County.
Yesterday afternoon (July 20th) around 3:30pm, members of the Lanark Detachment of the OPP, Lanark Highlands Fire Service and Rescue and Lanark County Paramedics responded to Dalhousie Lake Beach, also known as Centennial Park.
It was reported that a person on a paddleboard had fallen in and had not surfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket.
Members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Team recovered the body early this afternoon. The identity of the 46 year old male is not being released at this time, as his family is not in Canada and is not aware of the incident.
This is the second tragic drowning incident in less than a week in eastern Ontario. In both cases, proper use of a life jacket would almost certainly resulted in a different outcome.
The OPP says if you’re heading out on the water, wear a PFD or life jacket. They can’t save you if you don’t wear it.
