The OPP says two large water tanks were found on Highway 17 near B Line Road in Laurentian Valley.
The OPP says the hot water tank and water softener tank were both found on the shoulder of the highway last night (February 9th, 2021), around 9:30pm. Both tanks were seized by police and officers continue to investigate this incident along with a number of other incidents involving debris being placed on Highway 17 between the Pembroke area and Renfrew.
This is the second time this week debris has been found on the highway in the Pembroke area.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP started investigating Sunday (February 7th, 2021) around 3:20am after debris was found on Highway 17 near Sawmill Road in Laurentian Valley. The first incident was reported by the Renfrew OPP last month (January 8th, 2021) and involved rocks slightly larger than basketballs that were found on the Highway near Logo’s Land in Whitewater Region.
As a result of the danger posed to public safety by these incidents the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP and Renfrew OPP have jointly initiated a focused patrol in an effort to deter these incidents and to apprehend anyone responsible. The Crime Unit has been engaged to assist along with an OPP Regional Operational Analyst and OPP’s Forensic Identification Services.
Motorists are advised to be alert and watch for debris, especially in the early morning hours on Highway 17.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 613-735-0188 or Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at www.valleytips.ca.
