Petawawa council is not in support of a planned roundabout in town. The County of Renfrew is planning two roundabouts along Petawawa Boulevard (County Road 51). One of the roundabouts would be at the entrance to Garrison Petawawa and the other where Petawawa Boulevard intersects with Doran Road, Hilda Street and Mohns Avenue. Councilors Murray Rutz, Theresa Sabourin, Tom Mohns, James Carmody and Deputy Mayor Gary Serviss expressed concerns about the safety of residents and pedestrians. Council was not opposed to the idea of roundabouts, but was worried about the proposed roundabout at Doran Street. Mayor Bob Sweet says he is upset about the process and adds the business community has not been consulted. Council will be sending a letter with concerns to be reviewed by County Council on Wednesday before the project is endorsed and is sent for a detailed design.
