What do you get as a birthday gift for the County that has everything?
June 8th marked the 160th Birthday of the County of Renfrew.
Part of Lanark County until 1861, the separation process began with the creation of a Provisional Municipal Council- leading up to Renfrew County’s first council meeting in June of 1861.
Today Renfrew County is Ontario’s largest such geographic entity, covering 7,645.68 square kilometres and representatives of 17 local municipalities sit around a rather big table.
Prior to a series of 2001 amalgamations there were as many as 37 sitting members, representing the geographic township boundaries as they were drawn back in 1878.
Renfrew County offers a range of living styles including historic towns and scenic rural areas.
Its natural attractions centre around its many rivers- tributaries of the Ottawa, a World Heritage River on our doorsteps.
