Residents in the Ottawa Valley have come together to honour and remember the Muslim family murdered in London, Ontario. Despite the thunderstorms and heavy rain, over 100 people gathered at the waterfront in Pembroke. Those in attendance gathered under the sheltered area by the amphitheater for speeches and prayers. After the rain passed the group marched downtown Pembroke, drawing hearts along the sidewalk and writing in chalk thing like, “We Are All Family”, and “Do Not Hate Muslims”. Several youth from the Ottawa Valley Islamic group spoke. One of the students was from Deep River and talked about how when they were in Grade 7, someone in their class made a comment asking if she was going to blow up the school. The youths in attendance also spoke about recent discovery of the bodies of Indigenous children saying hate crimes are real and happen everywhere, even here in Canada.
