A Pembroke resident is claiming the AstraZeneca vaccine is causing health issues.
A go-fund-me page has been set up for Kevin Street, who received the AstraZeneca vaccine approximately 9-weeks ago.
Since receiving the dose, Kevin claims his health has been deteriorating and has had difficulties walking, articulating his thoughts and words, has seizures and shakes uncontrollably.
Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will respond to any safety issues and inform Canadians about any risks that arise in Canada.
When myFM reached out to Health Canada for a comment on this situation, representatives said seizures are not a side-effect of receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine and added health care providers are required to report possible reactions following vaccinations.
Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, Doctor Robert Cushman, was not able to comment on the case due to patient confidentiality restrictions, but says multiple health care professionals are involved.
The go-fund-me page says due to worsening health conditions, Kevin is unable to work and money being raised is to assist with financial burdens and to help find private medical attention.
Health Canada maintains the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks.
In Canada there has been 38-million doses administered and roughly 2,000 serious reactions (0.005% of all doses administered).
