Mason McTavish has his eyes set on the 2021 NHL draft coming up July 23rd and 24th.
The former Ottawa Valley hockey player could be picked in the top 10.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie has McTavish going 4th overall with other hockey insiders saying he might fall out of the top ten. The scouting report on McTavish has him ranked the number two North American skater in the draft.
The Ottawa Senators recently put out a list of prospects they could be looking at with the number 10 overall selection in the 2021 NHL draft. Among the players the Sens are looking at is the former Pembroke Lumber Kings hockey player.
McTavish played triple A hockey for the Ottawa Valley Titans between 2016 and 2018. In 62 regular season games, McTavish put up 134 points, including 79 goals.
From 2018 to 2019 McTavish played for the U18 Pembroke Lumber Kings and in 50 regular season games managed 111 points, including 49 goals.
McTavish had a short stint with the Pembroke Lumber Kings, playing five games for the team, scoring four goals with three assists.
McTavish was drafted into the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and recently played for the Peterborough Petes scoring 29 times with 13 assists for 42 points in 57 games played, enough to get him named to the OHL’s second all-rookie team.
The former Ottawa Valley hockey player has most recently been playing for a professional hockey team based out of Switzerland. In 13 regular season games McTavish put up nine goals and two assists and in four playoff games with EHC Olten he had seven points including two goals and five assists.
McTavish also captained Canada at the U18 World Championships where he won gold and was named as one of Canada’s top three players on the team.
Scouting report: He makes the right play at the right time and in the right place every single shift. He moves one way, drags the defender that way, makes them turn their feet, and then passes to supporting teammates in the opposite direction. He’s a net-front driven forward with a real knack for pouncing on loose pucks and banging rebounds home. McTavish’s unrelenting work rate makes him a constant threat without the puck, too.
