The Town of Petawawa is looking to update some of the signs on local trails.
A trailfinding strategy prepared by WSP was presented to council earlier this month (July 2021) and provided some examples that could be implemented.
Councillor Theresa Sabourin says she fully supports the project and really likes the guidance signs but added the information signs look busy and might be difficult to read for people with vision challenges.
Director of Public Works David Unrau told members of council the QR code would provide residents with additional information and adds he will go back to WSP to see if there’s something different that can be done.
Unrau also told council he would like to see a name for the paved portion of the Algonquin Trail that runs through Petawawa.
Councillor James Carmody suggested holding a contest and letting residents in the community pick a name.
Town staff will come back with some recommendations on a new name and have been given direction to go ahead and implement phase 1 of the signage project.
The work council approved includes the installation of a major information hub along the Algonquin Trail, a minor information hub along the Laurentian Drive Pathway, walking loop information, directional markers and regulatory signage at an estimated cost of $16,440.
