The first round of leaf and yard waste collection is coming up next week (October 18th) in Pembroke, Petawawa and Laurentian Valley.
There will be two other weeks in November for you to put leaf and yard waste out for collection.
Leaf and yard waste will only be collected on your regular collection day during the designated weeks and is collected separately from other materials.
Leaf and yard waste must be placed at the curb in reusable containers (lids off), cardboard boxes or
paper leaf and yard waste bags.
Leaves, garden plants, grass clippings and hedge trimmings put in plastic bags will not be collected.
Director of Operations for the City of Pembroke Brian Lewis says it’s important that only acceptable
material is set-out for leaf and yard waste collection.
He adds items like garden hoses and plastic bags in the leaf and yard waste cause significant operational problems at the Waste Recovery Centre as material wraps around processing equipment causing delays and breakdowns.
Collected leaf and yard waste is composted at the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre.
More information on leaf and yard waste is available on the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery website.
