Selkirk Street in Petawawa was a busy place over the Halloween weekend. The Haunting on Selkirk drew in crowds of people on Halloween and Devils Night. Local resident Alisha Rinas and her family spent about eight weeks working on the display with things starting back on the Labour Day long-weekend. Rinas says they had 551 people come out on Saturday and over 1,395 people on Halloween night.
One of the scary features was a spider tunnel and with no way out or “chicken door”, those who entered had to continue through the spooky path.
She adds it was about a 3-minute walk through the haunted house and the longest people had to wait to get in was about half an hour.
She says it felt like something you would see in the movies with the amount of trick-or-treaters out on Selkirk Street.
Rinas says neighbours had to go out and find candy so they didn’t run out before shutting the lights off at 10:00pm.
The Haunting on Selkirk Street in Petawawa was also a donation spot for the local food bank. Rinas says on Saturday they had eight totes full of food donated and on Sunday they filled an entire SUV and received over $398 in cash donations.
Rinas says they’ve been cleaning up for the past two days and expects it will take another two days before all the Halloween displays are put away.
She adds they’re already started planning for Halloween next year!
