Whitewater Region is planning to put an end to the leaf and yard waste collection program.
A pilot project was started in 2021 with collection taking place one week in May and one week in November.
The Township says during the May collection dates, a total of 258 pickups took place at a cost of $10,821.74 ($45.91 per pickup).
During the November collection dates, 237 pickups took place at an estimated cost of $6,000 ($25.32 per pickup).
Township staff are proposing to discontinue the leaf and yard waste collection program as there are 3,700 units that pay the curbside collection fee, while only about 250 or 7% used the service.
Staff are also recommending the curbside collection fee in Whitewater Region go up to $160.00 per unit (a 2.5% increase) in 2022.
