The County of Renfrew has approved the construction of new affordable housing units in the City of Pembroke.
The intention is to build a minimum of six, two bedroom units that are fully accessible and can accommodate both seniors and disabled adults.
Chair of the Community Services Committee for the County of Renfrew and North Algona Wilberforce Mayor James Brose says the complex will have a dedicated area for PSW’s and community paramedics to use.
The units will be built at the corner of Lea Street and Douglas Street, by the West End Mall in Pembroke.
Brose says construction of the integrated community housing project is expected to start in the spring of 2022 and will be complete by March 31st of 2023.
He adds there’s a shortage of affordable and accessible housing in Renfrew County and while it’s only six units, it’s a start.
This supportive housing complex will be built on Renfrew County Housing Corporation property where there is currently rent-geared-to-income housing.
