The Petawawa Public Library is increasing hours on Saturdays despite newly announced restrictions in Ontario.
Deputy Mayor Gary Serviss who is the chair of the library board provided an update to council on Monday night (January 4th, 2022).
Serviss says the library will be increasing hours on Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm, but limiting capacity to 50% as required under provincial guidelines.
He adds the library will remain open, but in-person programming for the month of January has been suspended.
Mayor Bob Sweet asked how capacity limits would be controlled at the library and Serviss says staff have a door counter to keep track of how many people are in the facility.
It was also mentioned that the Petawawa Public Library is looking to go fine free in March.
Fine free libraries are not new, even here in the Ottawa Valley, as Renfrew made the move back in 2021.
More details on how the fine free program will work at the library in Petawawa will be released as it becomes available.
