The outdoor ice rink at Kinsmen Park in the City of Pembroke is open for the season.
This afternoon (January 10th, 2022), it felt like minus 26 with the wind chill and some residents were still out on the ice skating around.
The city has two outdoor ice surfaces, one at Kinsmen Park at the corner of Herbert and Cecelia Street, the other at Rotary Park at the corner of James Street and Mary Street in Pembroke.
Recreation Programmer Sarah Frederick says the outdoor rinks in Pembroke are open from 7:00am to 10:00pm daily.
COVID-19 regulations must be followed and it’s highly recommended that everyone wear a helmet while on the ice.
Frederick says the outdoor rinks are not supervised and residents are asked to use at their own risk.
Rules are posted at the outdoor rinks.
Closed signs were still up at the Rotary Park ice rink in Pembroke over the weekend.
On Saturday (January 8th), the Laurentian Valley Skating Trail also opened for the season.
The popular skating trail located at the 2 Henan Road, next to the Alice & Fraser Rec Centre is open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
