The library in Petawawa is undertaking a year long pilot project to go fine free.
Chief Executive Officer of the Petawawa Public Library, Lisa Worobec, it’s a move other libraries across Canada, Ontario and even here in the Ottawa Valley have made in an effort to attract more people into the facilities.
Worobec says previous fines will be waived and no new fines will be issued for late charges on items borrowed from the Petawawa Public Library.
The CEO of the library in Petawawa says people are still encouraged to return items in case others want to use them.
She says if an item is out for too long, the library will assume you want to keep it and issue a bill to your account, which will be waived once the item is returned.
She adds for the most part, people are good for returning items.
Worobec says there’s been questions about popular items like snowshoes and museum passes and adds it’s a pilot project so they will have room to adjust if needed.
The Petawawa Public Library is excited to welcome more people back as capacity limits have been lifted in Ontario.
Worobec says in-person and virtual programming is available.
Updates on events and programs at the Petawawa Public Library are available on their website or Facebook page.
