The Town of Petawawa is removing the COVID-19 vaccine policy for staff, council and volunteers.
The policy in Petawawa required proof of vaccination or weekly testing, a requirement many other towns, townships and cities adopted during the pandemic.
A by-law to remove the vaccine policy will be presented to council on Monday night (March 21st, 2022).
The move follows neighbouring municipalities such as Pembroke, and plans from Laurentian Valley to do the same.
Masking requirements will also be lifted next week (March 21st, 2022) as per guidelines set out by the province of Ontario.
Those attending facilities such as the Civic Centre who want to continue wearing a mask are able to do so.
myFM has learned that Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet recently recovered from COVID-19.
He shared the news during his address to council on Monday night (March 14th, 2022).
Sweet says COVID-19 is still present in our community adding it’s not something you can just flip off like a light switch.
As masking mandates get set to lift, Sweet tells myFM he hopes residents will be respectful of others who want to continue to wear them.
The Petawawa Mayor credited the community, health unit and town staff for their efforts over the past two years during the pandemic.
