Planning is underway for an exciting new event in Renfrew County. The first ever Farms Open day is coming up in September of 2022.
While the event is still in the early planning stages, County of Renfrew Business Development Officer David Wybou tells myFM it’s an opportunity to feature some local farmers and farm operations.
He adds residents will get to experience some items produced in the Ottawa Valley.
Wybou says it will be up to the individual farm to decide what they will offer, but there may be food, music, products and fresh produce available depending on the location.
Wybou says they hope to make this an annual event.
A contest has also been launched to try and design the logo for the Farms Open event. The logo could represent some aspect of the event where farmers, gardeners and agritourism operators open their gates and invite visitors onto their properties to share stories, see on farm demonstrations and purchase food and products made in Renfrew County. Each person can send in a maximum of three entries to connie.cull@gmail.com before April 30th, 2022. The winner will receive a $50 gift card and $200 cash!
Local crafters, vendors and artisans will also be on display at a number of in-person Taste of the Valley events this year. The large scale farmers market style event will return to in-person activities in the County of Renfrew for the first time since the summer of 2019. Final details are still being confirmed, but the goal is to have locations set up in Renfrew, Arnprior, Deep River, Cobden, Barry’s Bay and Eganville.
