$5-million in funding has been announced for the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH).
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski says the province is providing over $5-million to the PRH for their surgical services and central sterile reprocessing project.
The hospital has also received approval to award the contract for construction.
Once completed, the PRH will be able to increase the capacity of the Surgical Inpatient Unit from 13 to 15 beds, allowing for more patients to receive the care they need close to home.
The scope of the project involves renovating the existing space of 15,108 square feet to expand the day surgery, surgical inpatient unit, and ambulatory procedures unit on Level 3 of the Pembroke Regional Hospital.
The hospital expects the project to enable an additional increase of approximately 192 outpatient day surgery cases and 554 surgical inpatient cases.
Yakabuski says health care has always been a top priority and adds this modernization expansion will assure more timely access to medical services for residents in the area.
PRH President and CEO, Pierre Noel, says this is great news for the hospital and the people of our area seeking surgical care.
