The Pembroke Public Library has been recognized for how they rolled out the TD Summer Reading program in the community in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anusha Arul who does Programming and Outreach at the Pembroke Public Library tells myFM they won third place in 2021.
Audio PlayerShe says they had to show how the program was delivered despite the pandemic. Last summer, the library laid out a storyboard along the boardwalk at the Pembroke Waterfront Park to encourage people to take part in the Summer Reading program. Arul says the judging panel was impressed with the way the library was inclusive, had a bilingual factor and used social media to promote their programming.
Audio PlayerArul says the library will be offering the Summer Reading Program again in 2022 and offer more in-person programming. Last year she says 170 people registered and they hope to get the schools involved. Registration begins in June at the library and the challenge is to read as many books as you can in the summer.
Audio PlayerTD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. The program rolled out in 2007 and the Pembroke Public Library received honourable mentioned in 2012 in addition to third place in 2021.
