Students in Pembroke are helping with work on the arboretum at the Waterfront Park.
City Councillor and liaison for the local high schools on the arboretum project, Brian Abdallah, tells myFM, some students are making bird houses, bird baths, picnic tables and book shelves for the arboretum.
Abdallah says they will continue to partner with local schools on projects to help maintain and improve the space at the Waterfront Park.
Those attending the Pembroke Waterfront Park will notice a lot of work in the coming weeks with the planting of trees and other items being installed.
Plans for the arboretum include building a bird habitat with trees, shrubs, flowers, rose gardens, a water fountain, a bird bath, bird feeders, benches and a presenters corner with a small stage to host groups.
In addition to the partnership with the local high schools, the Kiwanis Club, Pembroke Horticultural Society, the Pembroke Public Library and Algonquin College are also helping with the project.
