Health Canada has approved the Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to 5 years old.
This means roughly 1.7-million kids are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Canada has determined that the benefits of this vaccine for children between 6 months and 5 years of age outweigh the potential risks.
The dose will be one quarter the size of the dose authorized for people over the age of 12.
Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will continue to closely monitor the safety of this vaccine, and will take action if any safety concerns are identified.
